How do I get involved?
There are 3 ways you can get involved:
1. Join one of the existing groups by contacting one of the group leaders
2. Start your own group
3. Start a Johnny Cup in your region
How do I start my own group?
We highly suggest picking one other person to co-lead your group. Once you have that in place, find a course, day and time to conduct your weekly play. Once that is secured, send out an invitational letter like this. If you are considering starting a Johnny Cup group in your church, you may want to put an announcement in the bulletin or stand up to inform your congregation of the opportunity. When you decide to start a group, please email Nick Dadas at Nick@UniversityTees.com with the details so he can post it on the groups page.
How large does my group have to be?
It only takes two people to form a Johnny Cup group. As long as you both make the commitment listed on the about page, you are a group. Some groups will have as many as 30 players meeting on a weekly basis, others may have two
It does not matter when you play, where you play, or how many holes you play. The key ingredient here is making the commitment to get together 12 times, one time for each of the 12 chapters in the study guide.
Does it matter if we plan 9 or 18?
At the end of the season, there will be an unbelievable opportunity to play 18 holes at Sandridge Golf Club, followed by dinner and a presentation. This end of the year event will take place on Monday, August 29′th with tee times beginning in the early afternoon. In order to participate in this unique event, you will need to reserve your spot by 8/15/2011.
What Are Others Doing?
Each group is taking shape with what works for them. Some groups are playing golf for 12 weeks straight, and meeting up in the clubhouse afterwards to study each of the 12 chapters. Other groups are playing golf at one time, and meeting up at another to focus on the study in a separate setting. Some groups are playing golf with members of their church, and getting together before or after church to dig into the study guide. If you have a model that is working for you, please share it with us by emailing nick@universitytees.com or simply posting a reply below.
What is the discussion group all about?
Golf’s Sacred Journey is an amazing book. It has created quite a stir in the golf world for its unique blend of golf lore, golf tips, and life lessons. Although the book is a fast and easy read, there is a lot to talk about in each chapter. There is even a study guide we will follow. We expect to have some great discussions each week, a cut above the usual after golf banter of tale tales and could have beens.
What happens at the end?
At the end of the season, we hope that members from each group will choose one of the following follow up options:
1. Branch out on their own and start a new group
2. Go to the Links of Utopia
3. Commit to giving out 100 books
4. Start a follow up study group
At last! Someone who understands! Tanhks for posting!
